Automated system for thematic decoding of forest lands and vegetation based on satellite imagery
Purpose of development: automation of thematic interpretation of space imagery materials and creation of thematic maps of forest lands and vegetation
Scope of development: forestry, forest management, nature conservation
Brief essence of the development: the development is an applied software for the automated creation of thematic maps of forest lands based on the analysis of spectral-brightness indicators of objects on the earth’s surface using separate channels of multispectral satellite images using reference image areas.
The main advantages of the development: the development allows to increase the accuracy of thematic interpretation of forest lands and to automate the whole range of works.
Main technical characteristics: the development is based on the ENVI basic software and is capable of processing space imagery materials of multispectral Earth remote sensing systems. Processing of satellite imagery materials includes the following stages:
- evaluation of the separability of decrypted information classes of objects;
- statistical processing and correction of reference areas in order to improve the separability of information classes;
- thematic classification of space imagery materials;
- carrying out post-classification processing with the creation of thematic maps and determination of the areas of decoded objects.
Comparison of the development with analogues: the use of the developed software expands the basic software functions of the remote sensing data processing systems in the field of thematic decryption. There is currently no information about full-featured development analogues
Significance for the Republic of Belarus: the use of the development is planned for the organization of monitoring of forest areas, the operational compilation of thematic maps, the creation of planning and cartographic materials based on the use of data obtained from the Belarusian remote sensing spacecraft, the launch of which is scheduled for 2011.
Economic indicators: using cheaper space imagery materials in comparison with aerial photography data, automating processing processes, increasing the accuracy and efficiency of information presentation
