CHROMATOGRAPHIC METHOD FOR ASSESSING THE QUALITY AND AUTHENTICITY OF ESSENTIAL OILS

Description of the project: quality control and authenticity of essential oils is carried out by obtaining “chromatographic fingerprints” of the essential oil using non-polar and chiral chromatographic columns. The quantitative ratios of the enantiomers of the marker compounds are an individual characteristic of the essential oil and do not depend on the phase of ontogenesis and the method of preliminary preparation of plant materials, as well as the terms and conditions of storage of the essential oil.

The development relates to methods of establishing the quality and authenticity of essential oils and can be used for incoming control, production process control and quality assessment of medicinal and aromatic herbal essential oils.

Benefits: The technique is a simple, reliable, informative and inexpensive way to establish the quality and authenticity of essential oils. In comparison with the known analogs, the implementation of the development does not require lengthy and laborious sample preparation, complex detecting devices, and the creation of complex software.
