MAIN USE CUTTINGS WITH THE PERMANENT PRESERVATION OF THE MEDIUM-PROTECTIVE FUNCTION OF THE FOREST

Description of the project: The development proposed for implementation is an alternative to the clearcutting system. Non-clearcutting (gradual, voluntary-selective) allows you to preserve (or stimulate the emergence through measures of assistance) undergrowth of the main species and maintain forest lands in a forest-covered state at all stages of thinning of the stand (cutting techniques). The end result of felling in this system is not logging cut, but clearing converted to forested land.

Advantages: The development of the logging fund by non-clear cuttings with natural reforestation in the planned volumes will increase the profit of the forestry industry in comparison with the use of clear cuttings with artificial reforestation in these areas. The profit is ensured by reducing the cost of reforestation of main-use felling by preserving the undergrowth of the main species available before felling in the part of mature stands or by stimulating its appearance by means of assistance measures in the process of gradual felling techniques for another part of mature plantations planned for development by non-clear cuttings.

Reduced felling turnover. Permanent preservation of environmental protection functions in the areas of major forest felling. Preservation of the natural gene pool of forest stands, their micropopulation diversity. Increasing the profit of the forestry industry by reducing the cost of reforestation.

The development is notable for its novelty, has no analogues and creates a new ecologically oriented direction in wood use in the form of “Cutting as a method of preserving and restoring forests”.

Results achieved: Finished product. It is proposed for implementation on the basis of a paid ecosystem service at a negotiated price.
