Sewage treatment plant sludge treatment technology for compost, soil and disturbed land reclamation
Purpose: treatment of sludge from sewage treatment plants for use as fertilizer, soil-improving additive, soil component, during reclamation of disturbed lands
Characteristics: requirements for sludge of sewage treatment facilities and methods of their treatment have been developed
Advantages: in the Republic of Belarus, about 4 mln. tons of sludge from sewage treatment facilities that are currently not used. The use of sludge that meets the established requirements reduces the need for nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing fertilizers, contributes to the involvement of currently unused waste in the economic turnover
Form of intellectual property protection: patents 5554 RB “Method for removing heavy metals from excess activated sludge”, 5905 RB “Method for stabilizing sewage sludge”, 9053 RB “Method for removing heavy metals from excess activated sludge”
Stage of development: methods for examining sludge areas and studying the composition and properties of sediments in order to assess the possibility of their use as fertilizer and soil-improving additive; normative and technical documentation (TU BY 300003249.001-2009 “Fertilizers from sewage sludge”, technological regulations), which sets requirements for sewage sludge and regulates their preparation for use
Technical and economic results of implementation: the methods were tested at UE “Vitebskvodokanal” and OJSC “Mozyr Oil Refinery”. Currently used 34 thousand. t of precipitation of JSC “Mozyr Oil Refinery”
Scope: sewage treatment plants
Cooperation proposals: cooperation in the survey of sludge beds, the development of a set of regulatory and technical documentation for the preparation for the use and use of sludge from sewage treatment facilities
