In order to make a material out of ordinary fabric that can generate energy, scientists at the University of Massachusetts applied a special polymer layer to the ordinary material. Thanks to this, by means of friction, they managed to generate enough electricity to turn on the LED.

PEDOT polymer was applied to the fabric in a thin layer. He slightly affected the weight of matter, but he endowed it with new useful properties. The developers explained that the polymer does not affect the properties of the fabric in any way, so it can be washed and ironed. Outwardly, it also does not differ from an ordinary cloth, but it can become a good source of energy for a heart monitor, LED or small sensor.
