The use of GIS technologies in predicting the location of forest roads on the ground

Purpose: development of a digital terrain model based on GIS technologies, which allows flexible modeling of soil, hydrological and situational features of a specific territory for designing forest roads

Main functions:

The use of GIS technologies makes it possible to distinguish the following layers (layouts):

  • climatic conditions of the design area
  • the forest transport network of the district; condition of road surfaces, roadbed
  • culverts and small bridges, surface drainage systems
  • distribution of the total volume of cargo transportation by type of cargo; cost of transportation

Benefits:

  • improving the quality of design;
  • creation of prerequisites for reducing the volume of labor-intensive field work;
  • reducing the cost of building a timber transport network;
  • increasing the productivity of the timber removal process.
