The use of GIS technologies in predicting the location of forest roads on the ground
Purpose: development of a digital terrain model based on GIS technologies, which allows flexible modeling of soil, hydrological and situational features of a specific territory for designing forest roads
Main functions:
The use of GIS technologies makes it possible to distinguish the following layers (layouts):
- climatic conditions of the design area
- the forest transport network of the district; condition of road surfaces, roadbed
- culverts and small bridges, surface drainage systems
- distribution of the total volume of cargo transportation by type of cargo; cost of transportation
Benefits:
- improving the quality of design;
- creation of prerequisites for reducing the volume of labor-intensive field work;
- reducing the cost of building a timber transport network;
- increasing the productivity of the timber removal process.
