Method for determining the hydrocarbon composition of solid petroleum paraffins

Purpose: incoming control of raw materials, control of the production process and quality assessment of products based on petroleum paraffins

A brief description of:

Solid petroleum paraffins are a popular product in the oil refining industry.

They are used as raw materials in the production of detergents and surfactants; used for impregnating paper and paper containers; in the production of candles and matches; in electrical engineering; in the production of lubricants and vaseline, polishing materials and protective waxes for the automotive, tire and woodworking industries.

The demand for paraffins is constantly increasing with the growing shortage of petroleum paraffinic raw materials. For the rational use of petroleum paraffins, as well as for the production of paraffin-containing petroleum products of a given quality, it is necessary to study their chemical composition in detail in relation to their physicochemical and operational properties. The method developed in this regard for determining the composition of fractions of solid petroleum paraffins and products produced from them, based on the gas chromatographic method of analysis, makes it possible to establish the distribution of molecules by the number of carbon atoms in the range n-C17 – n-C44, as well as to determine the content of hydrocarbons of normal and isomeric structure in the specified range of carbon numbers

Advantages in comparison with analogues: it has no domestic analogues. Foreign analogue – ASTM D5442. Requires less expensive chromatographic equipment compared to ASTM D5442

Development stage: introduced at OJSC “Mining Wax Plant” (g. Svisloch, Minsk region, Pukhovichi district) into the production of refined solid petroleum paraffin and protective waxes

Technical and economic results of implementation: increasing the efficiency of production process management and improving the quality of products based on petroleum paraffins. The expected annual economic effect is $ 1.4 billion. rub.
