SIEMENS PRINTED ON 3D PRINTER PART FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

The world’s first part of the nuclear power plant was printed and installed by Siemens in Slovenia. Now the Krshko nuclear power plant has a fully functional fire pump impeller, created with 3D printing technology.

The old part was installed at the station in 1981, so the need to replace it is long overdue, but it was quite difficult to do, because the manufacturer of the original parts no longer exists. That’s why Siemens engineers made a 3D virtual copy, which was then printed in one of their factories. After the impeller was manufactured, it was tested for several months to make sure it was fit before installation. The results are impressive, because the printed part in its properties surpassed the original.

Siemens launched the additive printing plant back in 2009. Since then, a lot of useful products have come off its assembly line. Last year, for example, parts for gas turbines were printed there, which were then installed at a Czech power plant.Source https://hi-news.ru
