Armenia plans to develop solar energy

Solar energy is planned to be developed in Artsakh, according to a message received by Novosti-Armenia agency. 

“The development of solar energy is not a matter of the near future, but of today. This is one of the key points of the government’s energy saving and renewable energy development program. During the past month, the construction of the third complex solar station with a capacity of 1 megawatt has started in Armenia, “the message says.

This process is expected to pick up speed and the number of solar stations will increase in the near future. Both internal and external investors are showing serious interest in the construction of solar power plants. Similar steps are also being taken in the second Armenian state – the Republic of Artsakh.

It is known that the main energy resource of Artsakh is hydropower, thanks to the use of which in recent years the second Armenian republic has become an exporter from an importer of electricity.

And now, in addition to the efficient use of hydropower in Artsakh, an emphasis is placed on the development of solar energy. Prime Minister of the republic Arayik Harutyunyan stated this at a government meeting.

He noted that there should be research on solar energy production possibilities and discussion in professional circles

The Artsakh Prime Minister touched upon concrete steps. “Now we need to conduct research on suitable territories for the construction of solar power plants, especially since there is already an investor who is ready to build the first solar power plant. In addition, it is necessary to install solar panels in all apartments under construction to supply them with hot water. Thanks to this, citizens will save money and gain experience, “Harutyunyan said.

“It is obvious that both in the Republic of Armenia and in the Republic of Artsakh there is a main condition favorable to the development of solar energy – an abundance of sunny days. Armenia has already established various benefits for those wishing to build such stations. Now the turn is to create a favorable field for Artsakh. The results will not wait long, ”the message says.
