GLASSES FOR RIGID OPTICAL FIBER

Description of the project: The goal of the project is to stabilize the manufacturing process of glasses for optical fiber and products based on it, improve the quality of fiber-optic products.

Benefits:

  • high resistance to crystallization in the temperature range of fiber drawing;
  • consistency in optical and rheological characteristics;
  • the difference in the LTEC value between the glass of the light-guiding core and the reflective sheath is 9 ∙ 10–7 K – 1 versus 22 ∙ 10–7 K – 1 for an industrial pair of glasses;
  • the absence of environmentally unsafe substances in the glass (hazard class I).

Results achieved: 2 pilot batches of fiber-optic plates were produced. The approbation of the developed glass composition for the protective shell in production conditions has confirmed that its use ensures the stability of the drawing process and the required geometry of single- and multi-strand fibers.
